Berbatov has been pining for a move from White Hart Lane since the close of the last campaign, as he is desperate to play Champions League football while at the peak of his career.

And, according to The Sun, United are eager to seal a £25million deal for the Bulgarian international and thus put an end to one of the summer's soapiest transfer sagas.

Ramos' latest comments suggest that will essentially be up to Berbatov whether he wants to stay or go if one of his suitors, which reportedly includes Barcelona and AC Milan, meets their valuation, but made it clear that he is hoping that loyalty will prevail.

"I can't say whether Dimitar is happy or not," Ramos was quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"I just know that I would be very happy to keep him here.

"I would be absolutely delighted if Berbatov was still at the club after the end of the transfer window, I really hope that is the case.

"He is a magnificent player and we want to enjoy another season of him at this club."

"The window closes on August 31 so anything can happen before then," he warned.

"Players might come in and players might leave, it is all possible."
