SWP : Only Chelsea In Mind
Reports suggest that Wright-Phillips could leave the club before the end of the transfer window, with Portsmouth reportedly leading the chase to sign him.
The 26-year-old has failed to deliver consistently since his ₤21million move from Manchester City in 2005, and many – including his step-father, ex-Arsenal striker Ian Wright – believe the time is ripe for a change of scene.
New Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has already gone on record as saying that he is planning with the England winger, however, while Wright-Philipps himself has now reiterated his dedication to the club.
"I'm just going to put my head down and work like I always do. I just want to get on with it and help the team in the best way that I can," he was quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
"The pre-season was really good. It was hard in all the humidity, but we got what we needed out of it, which was fitness and good results.
"Now we just have to prepare for the opening game of the season.
"I feel there may be a few sneaky people in there, a few banana skins, a few bogey teams for a few people, and I just hope we don't hit any of them," he added.
"We're just going to concentrate on what we need to do, and as long as we win our games it is down to everyone else to worry."
