The Gunners' coach Arsène Wenger is prepared to raid the market for a new striker as he acknowledges it will be very hard to keep Emmanuel Adebayor, who has tipped to join Barcelona, at The Emirates.
The French tactician is a known admirer of Huntelaar after his 33 league goals for Ajax last term and is preparing an offer of €24 million for the striker, according to reports.
Ajax had put a €35 million valuation on Huntelaar but his limited showings at Euro 2008 (though he scored in his only appearance) lowered his price considerably. Still, the Dutch club have reportedly rejected a bid of €18 million coming from AS Roma.
Interest in Huntelaar is understood to be very high, with the Dutchman being followed by both Chelsea and Manchester United.
He has also been a long-term target for Real Madrid, having stated to the press that he would be delighted to represent the Merengues.
Huntelaar is expected to leave Ajax in the summer after negotiations with the club over a new contract produced no effect.
