The Lancashire evening post claims that Spurs hope to tie up the deal today, which would see out of favour keeper Paul Robinson sent the other way in exchange.
Bentley has been one of this summer's top transfer targets since he indicated he wanted to move to a club playing Champions League football, but now it appears that Tottenham have beat Liverpool to his signature despite them not having qualified for the elite club competition.
Should the reports prove true, the England winger would already be the sixth player that Spanish boss has managed to attract ahead of next season, with Giovani Dos Santos (Barcelona), Luka Modric (Dinamo Zagreb), John Bostock (Crystal Palace) Heurelho Gomes (PSV) and Paul-Jose Mpoku (Standard Liege) already being confirmed.
Confirmation of the deal would be a double blow for Aston Villa, as they had been linked with both Bentley and Robinson.
It has become clear for quite some time already that Robinson has no long-term future at White Hart Lane, particularly after the high profile arrival of Brazilian keeper Gomes.
