The Sun claims Inter have urged Lampard to hand in a transfer request immediately to fast-track negotiations, which were opened yesterday when the Italians faxed a ₤6.5million bid to the Blues.

The relatively low offer comes because the England international is in the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, talks over a new deal having stalled repeatedly.

The Nerazzurri will go as high as ₤9million but they are keen to have the deal signed and sealed by next Wednesday, when the squad reassembles for pre-season training under new boss Jose Mourinho.

“We will do whatever is necessary to sign Lampard,” said an Inter insider.

“Jose Mourinho has informed the president he wants Lamps at the club by the time the players return on July 16.

“We are confident we will fulfil the coach’s wish.”
