The 32-year-old was desperate to return to Italy following two miserable years at Chelsea, but the arrival of Scolari could well have a reinvigorating effect on him.
"Last season he made 12 starts and scored eight," Scolari pointed out to the Daily Star.
"Yes, he is a player for Chelsea. If I see him in training and if I believe in him, I will put him on the field."
The Ukrainian star joined Chelsea from AC Milan in 2006 for a fee of 39 million euros but has since only gone on to become considered as one of the biggest transfer flops in the Premier League's history.
Milan have never hidden their interest in bringing Sheva back to San Siro, and most recently declared that they will re-sign him, provided Chelsea give them the green light.
This now looks unlikely based on Scolari's latest comments, however, unless Shevchenko really fluffs his lines during the club's pre-season tour of Russia and the Far East.
